Career Summary & Objective

A career summary serves as the gateway to your resume, positioned at the top to provide a snapshot of your qualifications and achievements. Spanning just 4-6 lines, this succinct paragraph should highlight your most relevant experiences and skills tailored to the job description.

To craft a captivating career summary, meticulously align your qualifications with the employer's needs outlined in the job description. Imagine yourself as the reader, seeking precisely what you offer within those first few lines—this ensures your resume stands out and encourages further exploration.

To ensure you only include relevant information, read through the job description to outline exactly what the employer is looking for. Imagine being the reader and seeing exactly what you are looking for in the first six lines, and you are going to keep reading!

Choosing a Career Summary or Objective?

A career summary is perfect for applicants with over two years of experience that they need to highlight.

A career objective is better suited to applicants who have not yet gained any serious work experience. Rather than highlighting experience, a career objective allows you to outline your career goals and aspirations.

Employment History

Your employment history section is vitally important and can make or break your chances of landing an interview. The information you include in this section allows the reader to gauge your ability based on the duties and responsibilities you were required to complete in your previous positions.

You, therefore, need to list your employment history perfectly so that it really knocks the socks off of the reader. Luckily for you, we know just how to do this:

  1. The first point is to list your information in reverse chronological order. This allows your most recent and often most impressive experience to be viewed first.
  2. You need to clearly state the job title you held, the company you worked for, and the dates of your employment.
  3. Next, please write a few brief sentences that outline the main duties you were required to complete and how you could do them.
  4. Lastly, end with 4-5 bullet points that highlight your most attractive accomplishments and responsibilities.

Accomplishments

Your accomplishments section plays a crucial role in the success of your resume and highlights your most admirable achievements, which show that you are a world-class Yoga Instructor.

Refrain from simply copying and pasting your everyday duties. Rather, take time to think about how you use your unique skills, qualities, and experience to make your yoga classes exceptional and how you go above and beyond for your clients.

Quantification 101: Quantification is quite possibly the most important information you need to include in your resume. Without it, your statements are meaningless, and the reader cannot measure you against other applicants. In other words, your resume will not receive a second of attention longer.

Examples of accomplishment statements without Quantification:

  • Taught many classes with an average class size.
  • Received award from Full Circle studios.
  • Yoga Alliance registered Yoga /teacher, certified in children's and prenatal yoga.
  • Instructed clients on safe and effective exercise techniques while ensuring compliance with nutritional goals with a great success rate, achieving health goals such as weight loss.

  • Instructed clients on safe and effective exercise techniques while ensuring compliance with nutritional goals; achieved a 70% success rate reaching health goals such as weight loss.

Education

Yoga Teachers do not explicitly need formal educational qualifications to practice and teach. However, it should come as no surprise that those who have obtained qualifications will become more attractive. There is a way around this, however.

If your educational information is on the thinner side, but you have many years of experience, rather situate your employment history section above your education section.

However, if you have both experience and educational qualifications, list your education section first to grab their attention and then seal the deal with your impressive experience.

There is a right way and a wrong way when it comes to listing your qualifications and certifications. To list your information correctly, follow the below steps:

  1. For degrees and diplomas, list both your commencement and completion dates. For certifications and licenses, simply list the completion date.
  2. Next, state the full name of the obtained qualification and the institution's name where you completed the qualification.
  3. Lastly, it would be best if you mentioned where the institution is located by stating the city's name and the abbreviated state name.

Note: There is no  required yoga licenses in the US, but you can get a Registered YogaTeacher (RYT) credential or even a yoga studies degree.

Here are some education examples for your resume:

Skills

As a Yoga Teacher, you must have several unique technical skills in the form of industry practices and procedures, but most importantly, you need to have strong interpersonal people skills. As a Yoga Teacher, you may be responsible for helping clients through difficult times or simply be someone people feel comfortable talking to.

Without strong people, skills, and relationships it will be hard to build, and you will have little success. The best way to ensure you include skills that the employer is looking for is to read through the job description. Including these skills and qualities will allow you to appear as the perfect candidate.

This will also provide you with the best chance of beating the Application Tracking System bot that will be programmed to look for specific keywords and phrases.

When listing your skills, we suggest using a skills matrix rather than bullet points. Your resume must not exceed two pages in length which mean space is precious, and using bullet point will only take up unnecessary space. Instead, make us of a skills matrix. It is more visually pleasing, easier to read, and saves you space. See the examples below:
