Guidelines for Logistics & Warehousing Resumes

1. What to include in your resume highlights

The first aspect to note is the sector you are working in. Logistics and Warehouse Workers are mainly employed in the wholesale sector (selling to the middleman, companies or institutions) or the retail sector (selling to consumers). Next, state the industries you have worked in. Industries such as Automotive, Retail, Shipping Wholesale, Courier, Fleet, Transportation, Air Cargo Storage, Pharmaceutical and Specialty Chemicals. (Use the correct SIC codes, which you will find on any labor classification website.)

2. Education & Training

Senior or managerial positions may require Associates' or Bachelor's Degrees in Transportation Economics, Distribution Management, Logistics, Warehouse, and Fleet Management. Mid-Level roles can be obtained by doing post-school training and completing something like a Lean Warehousing Course or Supply Chain Management Certification. Special courses include Hazardous Materials Transportation Training (HAZMAT) and membership at The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Chain (CIPS).

3. Key Skills in Logistics & Warehousing

Cleaning Equipment, Safety Regulations, Sorting Products, Wrapping Materials, Moving Containers, Lifting Stacking Pallets, Recording Damages, Hoisting Equipment, Record Keeping, Mathematics, Pallet Jack Operations, Forklifting Equipment, Conveyor Belts, Packing, Stocking, Loading, Road Transportation, Shipping & Receiving, Scheduling, Purchase Orders, Manifests

4. Salary Range Expectations

If you feel you are not earning a market-related salary, do some research first on Glassdoor and PayScale to determine whether this is, in fact, correct. Moving jobs to earn higher pay is a legitimate reason, but also remember that a salary increase will not necessarily guarantee job satisfaction. Be realistic about your expectations for an increase when moving jobs, the average, currently, is between 10% and 12%. Below is a summary of per hour and each year's salaries for the warehousing and logistics industries. Pickers and packers – $22,130 per year or $10.64 per hour Hand-laborers and material-movers – $24,880 per year or $11.96 per hour Material-moving machine operators – $33,890 per year or $16.29 per hour General Workers indirect employment earn between $27 000 per year or $36 000 each year

5. Ad hoc tips for Resume Accuracy

Include full company names in your career history, not just the abbreviated names, and verify the correct spelling and if the company name has changed since you left them. Type out dates of employment should be typed out in full, for instance, December 5th, 2015 to January 10th, 2020. If you have gaps in your work experience because you were unemployed, on maternity leave, or took a sabbatical, mention them with a corresponding time frame to avoid awkwardness in the interview later The generally accepted resume format is reverse chronological order for employment history from current position back to the first position, but don't go beyond ten years
